VoIP
Using your broadband connection and Voice Over IP to make cheaper calls is fast
becoming one of the best ways to save money on your telecommunication costs.
VOIP is also known as Internet Phone. VOIP utilises a packet switched network,
to send speech digitally, instead of through the older type PSTN ( Public Switched
telephone network )
Voice over I.P. is not a new technology, in fact many of the large carriers use
very similar technology to carry their long distance and international calls without
you even knowing.
Phones VoIP was initially used in very large corporations during the late 1990’s
. Recently more and more small and medium sized businesses have been using VoIP
to cut their telecommunication costs.
Now home users can take advantage of the enormous saving VoIP can offer.
To take advantage of the savings, normally all that is required is an ATA (Analogue
Telephone Adapter ). This adapter can normally just plug straight in your existing
broadband modem.
VoIP has many other benefits as well. Some providers can even add an “incoming”
number for a very small fee. This is a very inexpensive way to get a virtual “second
line”
VoIP has many other advantages, for instance if both you and a friend or relative
overseas have the same VOIP provider e.g. Engin. Then calls between both parties
are FREE of call costs.
You will still need to pay any applicable data charges from your Internet Service
Provider.
